BBB Young Consumer Advocate Program (YCAP)

The Young Consumer Advocate Program is geared up for another school year. This summer we have worked with the Greensheet Education Foundation to put together a supplement called Smart Consumer. This publication is targeted at young consumers with helpful information on topics such as student loans, employability skills, credit information and scams and frauds.

We have also developed a youth video, Save Money, Spend Smart. Thanks to a grant from ExxonMobil, YCAP is able to present this video to high schools throughout our seven county area. This is a 15-minute video that approaches consumer issues through a fun presentation.

Teen fads and diets, buying a used car and contracts are some of the issues that YCAP will discuss at a program to young consumers. In addition, topics such as buying a used car, selecting a pager or cell phone and work-at-home schemes are other important issues to this market.

The more a consumer knows about their rights, the less likely they will be scammed in their lifetime. Our comic strip Scam Man shows how to be a cautious consumer in situations that you have already dealt with or will be dealing with in the near future.
